'62 Corvette

Sorry, meant to say that I picked up an RC/Ertal '62 Vette kit. . .

Good, for a minute I thought R-M had snuck one out on me. The RC/Ertl kit dates all the way back to 1962 originally. Therefore it's not a state-of-the-art kit. That wouldn't bother me if I were interested in 'Vettes. I started building cars shortly before then.

I doubt they re-tooled it but it certainly has been re-issued plenty of times. hth

That's gotta be an AMT/Ertl '62 Corvette kit. Actually, some of the kit dates back to 1962, while the chassis and engine go all the way back to 1960--in other words, a very, very old kit. As such, it isn't the most accurate '62 Corvette that could have been produced, but it IS the only styrene kit of this car ever produced.

Truthfully, one can practically build a complete bookshelf of reference books on Corvettes, as this marque is probably the most highly written up car of all American cars. A walk through a Barnes & Noble, Borders, or perusal of Motorbooks International's (MBI) catalog will turn up several books on Corvettes, and the '62 will turn up very prominently.

Other than body colors (no 2-tones were available on Corvettes in '62, even the interiors, I believe, were one-color throughout. Engines were Chevy Engine Orange (often called red, but really just about the same as Testors #1128 orange), with dull aluminum valve covers and fuel injection system (the '62 kits I have are all fuelies), the usual rust-colored exhaust manifolds, black pulleys, fan, starter, generator, and black interior of the engine compartment. Chassis was semi-gloss black, and most authorities say flat black for wheel wells and floor pans.
