Polar Lights NX-01 Enterprise

I visited one of my local hobby shops (Dutchess Train & Hobby Center) and
picked up a copy of Polar Lights NX-01
Enterprise. It was priced at $50.00, but they were having a 20% sale, and
I got an extra 5% thrown in on top of it. I
can see where it will be a LONG time before I attempt to build it, and that
I diffenitly agree with the person who
stated that it is/was a LARGE model.
The suacer section alone is 14x15". I haven't figured out HOW I'm going to
display it when I've built it, but it will
need a LARGE area to display it in. . .

In Oz, it's hovering arount the AU$100 Aus mark... or around US$70.
I cheated and bought the 12 incher of the ready made Artasylum version. Maybe one day I'll get the PL version.

Just send it to me when it's done, I'll have a spot ready... ; )~

Don't know when I'll start on it, but when I do, and finsh it I will make room for it. IF I hang it it will have to be in a low/zero trafic area. . . As I know I don't have the desk/table/shelf space to display it using the stand that comes with it.
I might do the vertical display thing that was suggested in Testor's multi pdf file book of model building guidelines. Don't know yet, but I will take a pic of it and post it to the scale model binary NG when I'm done with it.

I got the Bandai version when it first came out, it's quite a bit smaller than the PL. Does anyone know why it was pulled off the market?

I bought one at Hobby Lobby for 26.00. I heard it was very large but when I first opened the box the Ship looked weird to me and very small. I thought What the hell. This thing is only a foot long unless it is huge when you hang the panels off of it. Then I realized that dumbass (me) was looking at the stand! :-)) When I saw the "real" saucer sections at the botom of the box I was awestruck. It is HUGE!

Max,
Huge, don't come anywhere near to describing the "wee" beastie. I measured it and that puppy is 14x15" for JUST the saucer section alone. . .
It will be FUN putting it together. And hopefully it will NOT need anywhere near the filling and sanding that the Klingon Battlecrusier that I am currently building needs.
Did your kit come with the corrected instruction sheet? Mine did. They don't as yet have it as a download. If ya need it let me know and I'll scan it and send it to ya.

Grandpa,
Looking at the box cover, and the (LARGE) pics courtsey of Polar Lights, I was thinking of doing something just like that. Useing LEDs and the light strips when I assembled it.

Hobby Lobby (inthe US) just had it at 50% off 2 weeks ago.
As for displaying, hang it from the ceiling in a corner and light it with Fiber Optics.

Max,
There are a couple of pieces that are misnumbered. Like IF I remember correctly the pylons, and the supports for the display base.

Max,
On the corrected instructions sheet, several of the parts making up the pylons are misnumbered in steps 3 & 4, as well as in step 13, and the clear rods that help form the display base are also misnumbered in step 14.
Let me know if you would me to scan and E-Mail you a copy of the corrected instructions sheet. Or if ya like I could scan and post a copy to the binary NG.

I saw some pics of the RMS Titanic done w/ fiber optics using a small bulb and battery really looked nice in the dark. It inspired me to buy 2 of the Titanic kits of which 1 will have fiber. I was surprised how much it added to the model.
Perhaps a black light in another corner coupled with planets, stars or whatever in the room would complete a Space diorama aura.

Grandpa,
I can see where adding lights to the kit will increase the visual appeal, and I like your idea of using stars and planets w/a black light. Will have to give that some serious thought. There's a dollar store just up the street from me that has glow-in-the-dark stars/planets.
May have to make a trip up to them and get a package or two.

The nice thing is that its just a regular room until night time, then it becomes a dream room. I suspect you could place a number of space related things, models & other stuff, figures etc in various places.
Speaking of, there was an old sailing ship model around a number years ago that had some reflective paint wash with it that reflected under black light. I disremember the name but it was a pirate ghost ship. Perhaps it too is in the room in an opposite corner because its been warped ahead in time? Shoot, any of the Lindberg model ships would suffice if you can find a black light reflective paint wash for them. The models are fairly cheap.

A quick google for "star trek fiber optics" shows there was a kit marketed with fiber optics. A different search turned up

Maybe the Titanic is warped to the future instead of a pirate ship??? This old mans imagination is running in high at the moment for some odd reason.
