Thick paint clogging airbrush

Hi

I usually use Tamiya acrylics and never get that problem. I needed to use a certain blue from Polly scale that I couldn't find locally in the tamiya brand. It is very thick on the bottom and no matter how much I stir it up , I get bits and pieces that keep on clogging my airbrush. What do you guys do to stir paints up good? Or do you use any kind of filters prior to pour in the airbrush cup?

Thanks a lot

Yes, you could use a fine mesh metal strainer to filter out clumps. I think some people use a cut up strip of pantyhose ( don't laugh it works ).

Or once you stir up the paint, let it settle for a bit, and siphon some paint from the top of the bottle with an eyedropper.

Or if you don't need that much paint, just use a piece of sprue, dip in the paint and dribble some paint a little at a time into the airbrush cup.

I have a paint stirrer made from a small brass RC boat propellor/screw soldered solid to a fitting axle that fits snugly in the chuck of my small motortool. Motor tool is fed through a train transformator so it can be "throttled" back to almost stand still.

This will give you very much control over the amount of "overspray" when stirring the paint.

Throw a few BB's into the bottle and shake real good. Works for me. Richard

Thick is one thing, but there should not be crud coming up with the paint, even if the pigment did settle, does not sound right.

Hi

I love the BB tip, I might try that. The paint is definitely strange and as I said I never use polly scale so I don't much about it. Never had this with Tamiya (7-8 years old bottles) and I have old bottles laying around that I use every so often. I use a straw to transfer the paint from the bottle to my airbrush and I probably went too deep, I will let settle and place my straw only

50% deep, that should take care of it.

Thanks to all

I have never seened anything like it, it's just like pouring glue in the airbrush. It looks ok in the cup while thinned but once my airbrush is clogged and I open it, I see goo.

I threw it out and finished my blue coat with tamiya as usual.

Thanks

Looking over this thread, I do not see that you specify what you were using.

I use distilled water, as Polly Scale (acrylics in general) are sensitive to the thinner.
