The Russians were the only ones crazy enough to try something like this (well the Germans had mistels but most were unpiloted), but if the Americans or Germans had done the same, what combination would you envisage? Would make an interesting "what-if" diorama.

A truly remarkable effort. I was enthralled not only with your skills as a modeler but also with your articulate description of the whole process. You managed to capture with the written word the intensity of your effort to tame this behemoth and share with us the thrill of success. The feelings of frustration of your missteps, the well earned pride of accomplishment, and indeed the afterglow turned somewhat to sorrow upon arriving at the end of your project were all there to be revisited by many of us who have "been there, done that." There was also the wingtip experiments, I forget what they were called. F-84 attached to each wingtip of a B-36 (IIRC).
Then there was the F-84 with the downeard drooped stabs that was carried under a B-36. It still exists at the USAF Museum.

I personally like the USN Acron and Macon airships, with their own flights of Sparrowhawks fighter protection. Now that would make a nice kit.

AMT did the Akron/Macon in the ever popular 1/520 scale. IIRC there are Sparrowhawks that come with the kit. The kit goes for $30-75 at shows.
They did accompany the American ships with with a Hindenburg to the same scale. They usually go for a bit less.
They show up from time to time on e-bay and at shows.

Sorry, no Sparrowhawks with that model. I did two of them, as each version. The hanger door has a piece of plastic over it to show where the fighters would come out from, but no trapeze nor fighters.

Thanks for clearing it up.
The little Sparrowhawks that I saw must have been scratchbuilt.
Wasn't one of the airship models done with aircraft of some type?
