There was a Coast Guard Cutter named the Mohawk tied up in Wilmington, Delaware, for God knows how long? She still had .50 mgs in gun tubs when I first saw her ten years ago. She sure didn't look like a well taken care of ship. Finally she was towed away, not leaving before she hit the Market Street Bridge on the way out, and some say she was sunk for a artificial reef, others she was cleaned up and made a research ship, some even say she was sold to the Canadian Navy? I know she served in WW2 and was on coastal patrol as far north as Greenland when the war in Europe was over. I don't think she ever sank any U-boats? What happened to her? Mike IPMS

Al, they got something terribly wrong here. The Mohawk was tied up and rusting away at the Wilmington, Del. river front docks for God knows how long?. Maybe they took her to Long Island before the Miami bit? I used to go by her every day and wonder how long those Browning M2 HBs were going to remain in those gun tubs before somebody swiped them?. The old rummy that watched over her was asleep most of the day and drunk all night. I know this to be true. Ship was about ready to sink where she stood. Any way can dig up newspaper fish files on the day she 'shipped out' to back up the above. Mike IPMS
