2008 Mate Coordinate System

Yes, they FINALLY added this after ALL these years and after ALL the request from users!?!?!? Who would've thunk it'd be possible in our life time...!??? Maybe Ade$k Inventor has that option??

From what I see, it allows for a Coincident Mate for both origin (Point1@Origin@Body) and Coordinate System with the option to Align axes (default xyz, no option to swap) and there is only one linear delta option which seems to be fixed at the positive X axis???? And, there is NO rotation option!? Well...... looks like AGAIN,.. the typical... half baked.... make enhancement request again,... add subscription $$$ and.... wait until the next future feature release.... break/fix/break/fix... sp's.....

SO,... the WORKAROUND (oh boy!!?!)... is to change the coordinate system orientation!?!?!?

BTW, aside from this half baked feature.. or for those who don't have SW2008... the easy work around for doing coordinate system mates is,... create a 3DSketch lines (or a extruded surface/solid box to get a corner) to represent the XYZ vectors for each part (copy/paste) and align the corresponding lines/vectors allowing you to swap the vectors if needed and also allowing you to change angles about/around vectors.

Cimatron uses coordinate system mating extensivly. There are options for XYZ delta moves from the original UCS to UCS vector and XYZ rotation with 1st rotation, second rotation, 3rd rotation logic. You can also mate a UCS to a Planer face which sets the Z direction of the part your placing in the assembly and then mate the UCS origin of the new part to a point, vertex or delta distance from existing part origin.

I'm sure Cimatron can do this! As a user of Pro/e and when I first sat down and reviewed SW in 1996 and new about SW being created by ex-PTC people... I could not believe that there were NO coordinate system mates!?!? It has taken SW Corp this long to give the users something that does NOT even have the tools for coordinate system mates to work well and that other tools have had for well over 15 years!!!???

.. (add more money to a dysfunctional company and var system....)
