To get into Solidworks. I am using AutoCad Mechanical Desktop 2000i Power Pack now, mostly 2d and mostly prototyping and replacement parts. Would like to know the cost since that seems to not be discussed anywhere.

$4k to start. A bit over $1k/yr for basic subscription service if you desire to do it (no need to decide for 12 months).
