I know it's not exactly what you are looking for but you can do the same thing this way:

1) Click the first item in the assembly.

2) Hold down the shift key and click the last item. Everything is now selected.

3) Now, holding down the CTRL key, click on the items you want to deselect.

Not as slick as writing a macro, but eh...
