Try this experiment:

-Copy the files to a temporary directory.

-Create a temporary assembly with one of your files as its only component.

-Save and close all files.

-in Windows, "swap" names of the two files, i.e. change "PartA.sldasm" to "PartB.sldasm" & vice-versa.

-reopen your temporary assembly and see if you get a warning

Suggestion.

Make a test folder. Copy the assembly from the network drive and its associated parts to the folder. Create a new assembly and insert the assy in question as its only components. Save and exit SW. Replace the assy in question with the one from the database. Re open the newly created assy. If they were the same part to begin with, then you should get no error messages. If they were different, then SW should tell you that the internal ID #s don't match and ask if you wish to continue.

Doesn't exactly tell you the #s you were after, but does an internal comparison to see if they are the same.

Also won't help if either of the 2 assys in question have been otherwise altered. IE one opened in the interrum and saved as a different SW version that the other.
