Automation and sound ideas

Sep 20, 2006 1 Replies

Hi, we're working to build a G scale railroad that will be on display for a number of children during the holiday season. If any one has ideas / suggestions we can use for adding (child controlled) automation and sound, we'd really appreciate it! In specific, we're looking for info on:

  1. What types of animation can be easily added

  1. We'd like to add a whole slew of sounds (20+ perhaps) to the layout, with push buttons (or something similar) to trigger them. What is the most economical way to play sounds like this (note this will be in a somewhat noisy area, so we may need to add a bit of amplification, depending)

  2. What types of "triggers" work best? Just mounting large buttons on a post or something?

Ideas are most welcome - and thank you in advance!

Scott

p.s. the layout will be somewhere in the 25' by 18' category, if that matters.

For multiple use buttons, you may want to check with an elevator company (Otis?) to see if their high traffic buttons can be made available to you guys. I'd definitely tell them what you want to do and why. Who knows, they may donate material and expertise if approached correctly....
