(SPARTA, PA.) A special train will be run by Sparta Railroad today, in memory of the late, lamented John A. Dalton. He represented the best sort of railroad builder and official, and was a humorist in the best American tradition. The excursion will run to the present end of track, where railway officials have caused a pavilion to be erected, for the provision of a picnic supper. Music will be present in the form of the Petrolium Union Brass Band, and the mayor of Sparta will deliver an address fitting for this occasion of sober yet pleasant memory.
Dear folks, Today this HO excursion really did run. You will have to imagine the bunting, flags, band, pavilion, and crowd of townsfolk. I had to do something, though...Big John departed this world shortly after I began reading this news group, but through his past posts and through those of his long-time friends here I learned just how unique and irreplaceable he was. Let us wish him at peace and among friends, and someday hope to get off at the same station.
Cordially yours, Gerard P.
P. S. The Sparta Railroad hasn't run in almost a year, but the excursion train ran flawlessly to the end of the line. It waits there, steaming invisibly among the silent, unseen crowd, and serenaded by the band, until I bring it back this evening. Good night.
