catching mail on the fly

Everything is in position on the layout for catching a mail bag on the fly. The secret will be to make the bag come off crane without derailing the cars. See it at

Yup!!!! Sucked under the train by the 'wind of passage' ---- The wheels doing a Great Job of shredding the 'mail sack & contents' --- Postal Inspectors got to 'pick up the pieces' and tape together all those pieces to send the 'Mail' on to its intended destination. Great motivation to prevent the same thing happening in the future.

I remember hearing stories of someone tearing up a letter and throwing it away (along the rr tracks), and later getting the 'restored' letter delivered again.

[story heard in the 1950s, supposedly happened back in the 1920s, so it's a looong time ago.]

Lovely scene, but how many elephants had to die to make those ivory trucks on the car following the RPO?

Didn't you know about the experiment Santa Fe did with Delrin truck frames back in the 50s?

Phil: Far be it from me to rain on your parade, which is going nicely. For instance, the foreground of that scene looks especially realisic. But a couple notes:

About the modeling, it looks as if you're deep in earthquake country. At least that white building in the center seems to have slipped off its foundation and is listing at a pretty noticeable angle. Don't the people who live there get tired of all their stuff ending up in one corner?

And at the risk of offending you, I'm going to suggest again that you can do yourself a favor with these postings here and how they're stored on your web site. In fact, it would only take a *tiny* change in how you do things.

You already have links for each of these scenes below the picture. Consider this: instead of always giving the link to your top page in these postings, as you do now, just create the page with your new scene in it, put the link in the list on the front page, and post *that* link here. This way, your links will never go "stale". (As it is, if you look through your old messages and click on the links, you'll always only see the latest scene.) You can still put the latest picture on the front page, of course. See how easy that is?

Anyhow, consider it.
