Even more UP strong arm activity

Scout troop loses space for its gear By Tasha Bartholomew, STAFF WRITER

SAN LEANDRO - For the past 85 years, Boy Scouts

Troop 503 has spent countless hours helping the community. Now the group is hoping to find itself on the receiving end.

A few months ago, the troop was evicted from railroad property on Carden Street, where an old 27-foot trailer containing the boys' camping equipment, records and flags had been kept for the past 20 years.

According to Mark Miller, the troop's committee chairman, there was never a problem when the site was owned by Southern Pacific Railroad. The property presently belongs to Union Pacific Railroad.

Citing national security issues, Union Pacific officials told the Boy Scouts troop it had four days to vacate the premises and an extension would not be granted, Miller said.

Calls made by The Daily Review to Union Pacific corporate headquarters in Nebraska were not immediately returned.

John Taufer, a local businessman with Sebring Transportation Co., temporarily offered some storage space for the trailer at the company's trucking yard off Doolittle Drive on the condition that the troop find a new home by Jan. 1.

Well, time is almost up and the troop is no closer to finding a permanent location than it was in October when the problem first surfaced.

Miller said the Boy Scouts are looking for either a place to store the trailer or a place to store the gear if people don't want the trailer on their property.

The motto always has been "Be prepared." It was never explained to me just exactly for what, but this is obviously an example.

Yah ya never know when an errant boy scout will run amok in the train yard and cause some accident like over exhaustion from laughter... This "nation security" screen is going to be the death of us all if not physically them spiritually!..

The boys scouts are an organized group that might have sharp objects. Some might possibly have personal opinions that may differ from the administrations. They may not be patriotic and could demoralize our troops. But that's something for Reich's Marshall Cheney to deal with. More than likely the UP thinks a Boy Scout might get hit by a train or get injured on their property. It seems the UP currently has some liability issues when it comes to running over people with trains. They may actually be doing something to prevent it or other potentially hazardous situations. Well, they discriminate against gays and atheists, so I doubt they're really in any danger of putting Shrub and Dicko's undies in a knot.

Yes, and for sure.
