Hmmm.... How about all of them for free?

The movies are available for download, and in fact the descriptions are worded exactly the same as in the Prelinger Archives:

In fact, I found this fascinating bit of legalese:

"Rick Prelinger and The Internet Archive hereby offer these public domain films from Prelinger Archives for free downloading and reuse.

You are warmly encouraged to download, use, and reproduce these films in whole or in part, in any medium or market throughout the world, for any purpose whatsoever except the following:

  • You may not sell or sell access to the datafiles representing the films.
  • You may give or transfer them to any other person, company, or organization, but the gift or transfer must be free of charge.
  • You may not sell, represent, license, or charge for access to these films as stock footage.

Any derivative works that you produce using these films are yours to perform, publish, reproduce, sell, or distribute in any way you wish without any limitations.

Questions about works from Prelinger Archives or their copyright status should be directed to Rick Prelinger at Prelinger Archives, PO Box 590622, San Francisco, CA 94159-0622 USA."

Sounds like "you may not sell" is pretty clear...but is putting them all together on one disc a "derivative" work? IANAL...
