HO Scale for Sale

Hi Everyone,

I am still looking to sell off the remainder of our HO scale collection. I have quite a few Kadee and Intermountain boxcars. I also have a number of ATSF Athearn Genesis F-series diesels, Intermountain ATSF F-series diesels, and a few other ATSF engines [Atlas, P2K, and Kato].

Every item is brand new, never used. Mint Condition.

Please e-mail if interested: mc snipped-for-privacy@yahoo.com

Please no low ball offers. I am looking for $20 per Intermountain car and $25 per Kadee car. Engine prices vary. I am certainly open to discounting larger purchases.

Thanks, Matt

It's amazing how many sellers think that potential buyers are supposed to happily meet whatever price the seller is asking, and metaphorically shake their fingers at bargain-hunters as if they were not keeping up their end of the deal.

But in fact, human beings are pretty much *all* bargain-hunters, everywhere and all the time, which pretty much explains why you haven't yet sold off the remainder of your HO scale collection.

You wonder what's going on in some people's minds, though.

Example: There a guy on Ebay who's trying to auction off a Westside S.P. GS-6 with a starting price of $600 (formerly $800); and when someone told him that they normally sold for circa $300 on Ebay he replied "We can't take that little. We paid far more for it."

Even if that's true, I can't figure out why he thinks that someone else will think that that's a good reason to pay twice the going rate for something that's not particularly rare...

More than sometimes on the taxes. Often, if you have the right representation.

And me, oh god, I've been one!

I'm surprised and sorry my posting confused you. It seemed very clear.

I am selling brand new, mint condition, unweathered Kadee and Intermountain train cars for a little less than I paid for them. This isn't a profit pursuit. It's a simple effort to recoup some needed funds.

You are correct in recognising that I do not desire "bargain hunters" to contact me. I am looking to communicate with HO scale train enthusiasts who are always looking to add difficult to find train cars to their collection and/or their operating layout. My cars come from my personal collection which I assembled over a lengthy period of time. I never created a layout as originally planned. As for having cars still remaining from my selling efforts, perhaps this will be easier for your to understand. Sales have been ongoing for over a year. Most buyers are searching for specific item numbers, and they may buy one single car with enthusiasm or a handful of cars. One gentleman recently purchased fifteen ATSF reefers and two cabooses. Cars he had been looking for, for quite some time, without success.

As for my offer to negotiate discounts for larger purchase quantities, that has been my practice since the outset of making the decision to sell off the collection. That's quite normal in retail as well.

My posting on this site and my intentions are honest and very straight forward. I talk with the buyers on the phone. We exchange e-mails where I send them digital images, and it's a very pleasant exchange. One that is beneficial to both of us. Every purchase has ended with two happy people: the buyer and me.

It was perfectly clear. You can safely ignore the pronouncements from people who do not appreciate that a seller is entitled to set whatever price they choose, just as any buyer is entitled to choose not to buy at that price.

Relax, Mr McBrennan, you did nothing wrong except exercise bad judgment in coming to this newsgroup where the vicious few have chosen to attempt to tear you apart rather than accept that even though the bargain hunter does have a right to hunt bargains, you also have a right to choose your prices.

In plain English, you found the worst of the worst (in behavior) on this newsgroup. You have every right to post here but do remember, this is a very pubic place and the riff raff come here as well as the gentry.

I don't think he was so roughly handled. But if he really does want to advertise in an arena where set priced offers are not only encouraged, but required, he should go to HO Yardsale at Yahoo groups.

Saw something similar in musical instruments awhile back. Someone selling a Roland Juno-2 for starting price of 600.00 Going rate is under 300.00 and often down around 225-250

Needless to say I watched this auction for the hell of it, and got bored after he relisted it for about the 3rd or 4th time. Most people usually reduce their prices when they relist, because they realize they're not going to get what they're asking.

Come on, Steve. It's USENET and he can do whatever he pleases. Just like you are free to do the same. Why should he bend to the whims of others here when others do no bending at all?

Sure you do, Ray, sure you do.

To others here who may be puzzled, Ray Haddad pops up here from time to time for the sole purpose of chiding others who he considers to be too anal, too permissive, too humorless, too funny, too ... depends on whatever stick happens to be up his ass at the time. (Of course, another vital reason he posts is to get into long involved arguments with his pal Greg Proctor.)

To my knowledge, Ray Haddad has *never* started an on-topic, informative thread here. Not once. Now, I realize I could be wrong, and am willing to admit so if someone can recite chapter and verse, but I don't think I'm wrong.

By the way, the OP himself, mc snipped-for-privacy@yahoo.com, seems to post here for the sole purpose of trying to sell his stuff to us. Now I realize that this isn't against the rules, doesn't violate the charter, blah, blah, blah. I'm just sayin' ...
