Interior of Structures

Hi,

Usually I just stick black cardboard in my structures and forget about it. Now I'd like to try my hand at having an interior, or at least something that passes as one. I thought about taking pictures of local storefronts with a digital camera and then scaling them down to fit in the windows.

Has anybody tried this? I'm thinking that if you look at the window straight on it would be OK, but at an angle it might not look right.

I've done it and it works quite well. I favor printing on transparency and using low power illumination for evening scenes. Take one shot to be the window, complete with signs and stock close to the glass then take a second inside the building. Sandwich them and, with the light off you see the window and stock with a suggestion of store behind it and with the illumination on you see the whole store, the same as you see in RL.

I'd put the pictures a little bit in from the glass of the window and that usually makes the window look like it has some depth. Note that downtown shops usually have a window that is 2-4 foot deep and that is about where the picture should be. Bending the bottom of the picture so that it goes to the window is also nice. For house windows, etc. a floor and a wall inside about 1/4 of the dimension of the house is about right and then you need to do some crude furniture to finish it off. For the furniture, remember that painting the details on will be more than enough.

The trick is mount the photo(s) an inch or so behind the windows. Tht way the image seems to move in relation to the store front.
