Realistic Water

I have gotten my self into a pickle, building a lake. I have spent weeks building up a lake bottom, with plaster cloth, various paints, rocks etc. and thought I was ready. I poured in two bottles of Realistic Water (roughly 18" square) and - next morning, most of it was gone. I obviously have leaks I didn't know about.... Now, any advice on sealing this without messing up all the scenery I have done?

Learning the hard way....

Since you don't want the pours to be more than 1/8th in thick at any pour. You could paint on the first few layers and let them dry 24 hours before the next layer.

Been there!

If there's just a few leaks, you should be able to find them by looking above the puddles of dried 'water' on the floor below your layout. A couple pieces of painter's tape will take care of them.

If it's a widespread problem, I agree with the avice posted upthread - paint on a few layers of the water and let it completely dry before pouring in more. That should seal everything up, and give you a chance to paint rocks on the shore and such, which helps sell the illusion.

When you finally do have a good seal, don't pour it all in at once anyway - it takes forever to dry, and the epoxy-based stuff (AVOID) will chase you out of the house for days from the outgassing. *
