What wheels?

Carter,

Look at NWSL or Jaybee N/S wheels....Both have N/S plated wheelsets. NWSL has blunt end wheel sets for Athearn 'dummy' trucks...

I have an Athearn unpowered B unit to go with my F3s and I want to replace the plastic wheels with metal ones. Does anyone have any recommendation for wheels?... I like the Proto 2000 wheels for my rolling stock but they, of course, are too small for the B unit.

Would appreciate any suggestions and I'd also like to know what size those B unit wheels are.

Thanks/Carter

You might want to look at some of the better F units that already come with metal wheels. Athearn Genesis (F7) or Steward (various), Intermountain, etc.

The powered truck wheels can be used without problems as the rest of the gears aren't put into the trucks.

Hi Carter

NWSL have replacement wheelsets for Athearn dummys. Or you could buy replacemnt sets for your powered units and put the metal ones from the powered unit on your dummy. The wheels are supposed to be 40" which is just on 11.6mm HO scale. The Athearn wheels are a tad to large. The NWSL wheels are correctly sized and made from nickle silver (blackened) They come in a set of 12 wheels (6 axles). They are around $9.00US per 12 set. For my powered units I used the 88 tread type (set part # 37241-4) which have narrower treads than the RP25 110 tread style. (set part# 37141-4) You will need to determine if you have "inside" or "outside" frame truck (different sets for each type). Mine were the later inside type. The inside type have the square bronze axle bearings on the inside of the wheels.

Or

I have some metal Athearn 1/2 axles wheelsets from F units chassis's I don't need. Where are you? You can have the wheels if you want to pay the postage. Enough for three 4 axle units.
