Big lister

Gents, With the rally season drawing to a close, i had the chance to liberate the lister Q from my storage container. I bought it from dan howden last year, but due to space issues at home it went into storage at the farm, we got it home on the trailer and set to work, the first problem to overcome was the backlash in the cam, this was down to a worn woodruff key on the timing gear, a replacement was'nt avalable, so i had to repair the old one, this was done by building the wear up with weld and then fileing down until a good tight fit was achieved, i also found that the valve timing was a tooth out. The cam gear was refitted, the timing reset, and that very heavy flwheel lifted back on. I fitted the mag off the N type, put some fuel into the the chamber, opened the decompression lever, and second pull away she went, a few adjustments and it settled down to run very smoothly. I think it runs smoother than the N type, i put this down to the heavy flywheels. A full strip down and cleanout is next on the list, it's full of black sludge. The cosmetic appearance will be left as it is, alot of original paint has survived. Photos at

Martin,

So that's an L, and M and a Q. I can furnish a single flywheel A, you have a B, another one of the exhibitors has a C (well CD), D types always arrive, Peter has an F, G etc

An alphabetical Lister line up would be an interesting challenge...

If anyone wants to try for all types of Listers at the 1000 Engine Rally Graham Corry has models at the Anson of A B D H J L M N P & Q. That would leave finding CA F G K O & R as the problem.(Possibly others)
