Covenrty climax radiator question.

Gents,

Having been very quite on the engine front for a bit, I've been forced to dig my way into my garage, and in the process have 'found' my Cov climax 1.5kw genset. I have now got the drive belts, and I know that it runs, so just have to bolt it all back together, and wire the alternator up.

My big question is this. The rad has a 2" pipe sticking up at 45o from the top, with an olive brazed to it, which makes me think that it needs a pipe attaching to it. The is no cap, and I don't think I really want to pressurise the system (the rad looks a bit iffy!), so what do I do with the pipe? I want to fill the system with anti-freeze (as the set will be on standby use) but don't want it all to evaporate away. It has a water pump on it.

Do I just find an ill fitting tin and put it over the top to stop evaporation, or even better what should be attached to the pipe??

Cheers for any help

Andy G

(still after a head gasket for it!)
