Can anyone give me advise as to what to set the crankshaft end-float on a
2HP Rosebery Vertical.

Try 0.005" to 0.010" if you have the means to set it with shims or gaskets.
Anymore than 0.010" and you risk getting knocking if there is any axial load, any less than 0.005" and you may find the crank binding when it all heats up.
