Far Tottering and Oystercreek Railway

This was Roland Emett's cartoon railway, later built as a working attraction at the Festival of Britain

The three locos were of narrow gauge "steam" outline, but the Festival locos themselves have been described as "15 inch gauge diesel-electric engines (from war-surplus searchlight generators), built by Harry Barlow of Stockport. "

This puzzled me a little - Diesels?

Anyone hereabouts familiar with searchlight generator engines of this period? 8-) Were any of them diesels. Any thoughts on which engines might have been used in this way.

Thanks

Lister JPs were commonly used for searchlight sets. There is a 9/1 powered loco on the Ravenglass and Eskdale.

Saw a nice C-V Cub powered set at a rally not so long ago - probably around the right period.

Nick Wasn't the C-V post-war?
