Aerobatics. So he's likely a top end pilot to start with, very practiced in that particular plane, and with a vast amount of excess power to play with.
That's what you call a snap roll :-)) The one thing you can do with modern high performance aerobatic aircraft is hold the plane on the prop, that's what he appeared to do to slow the decent, bit like a helicopter, then flip it over to land it.

There's a lot of inane speculation about the airliner flying over the hotel, then landing off the beach, too. However that's a well-known hijacking, Ethiopian 961
