I suppose it's another answer to "What do you give the man who has everything?"
John
Penicillin usually.......

It's down to just a tenner now. I wonder if I can paint it rusty brown and turn it into something for our upcoming Steampunk festival?
It was plumbing time in the bathroom last night. Just to change a couple of tap washers I had to go out to the shed and get one of the big ex-steelworks adjustables: two foot long, just to find something big enough to fit a bizarrely oversized bath tap.
It's times like that where I usually end up just making something as it's easier (and/or far less expensive than buying a proper tool for the job :-)
As for the adjustable spanner, I'm not sure if I like the concept or not. Seems very gimmicky, but OTOH it's not always easy to adjust a "manual" adjustable spanner when very oily or with gloves on or when it's -30 outside and your fingers don't want to work...
cheers
Jules

Steampunk? Well I'm quite keen on punk - or at least post-punk / new wave - music, but not really a hot fog fan. Do they have an internal combustion or stirling branch?

Yes, we're expecting a few dieselpunks along! '30s cocktail dresses will make a change from corsets and bustles too.

If you try Nick, I'll lend you my handbag
You are a true gentleman Kim

This is conjuring up some really horrible visions of you lot in drag. How did my original post about a battery operated tool get so disgusting?
John
Disgusting? - You're the one talking about battery operated tools! Seriously though, isn't it frightening how easily a group of supposedly intelligent adults revert to juvenile humour.

Gentlemen,
I thought these spanners were a gimmick until I had my arm under >

We've just bought a new LG (Direct drive motor, interesting beast, _remarkably_ quiet) and I needed to level it. After faffing unsuccesfully for some time with Facom and Snap-on's finest, I tried it with the supplied piece of pressed tin (thinner!) and had the job done in moments.
I'm OK for handbags, thanks very much, but I could certainly use some advice on doing risk assessments, so that the good burghers of Chepstow will lend us their bandstand.
Andy, What I should have pointed out is that I work for a company who build specialist Washing machines for Hospitals, Research and University facilities and our largest machines come in kit form to go through a standard door but when built you could get a small car inside, they are approx 4 metres wide 5 metres long and about 3 metres high and the wash and rinse tanks hold about 650 litres of water :-) Not home use but industrial with about 12 adjustable feet.

Andy, Will send you email of a risk assessment I send to our council to allow me to put on an engine display at a council run event.

Hmm, with you there - though perhaps something just a little more gothy would win for me - something to do with excessive exposure to the likes of Nina Hagen in my formative years!
