OT - AVO help needed.

Gentlemen,

Whets an AVO, is it one of those bakelite containers with a glass window fitted to protect a needle thingy, it all usually came in a leather or wooden box with a couple of coloured leads :-)) Cant beat a small plastic box called a multi meter which if it blows up you bin it and buy another. :-))

Is that what AVO means or a good guess.

I believe that to be the origin of the instrument's name and ultimately that of the company (originally Douglas coil winder co. or something).

......though not very accurate in some details. eg '.....most recent version, Model 8 mk7, in production from 1950s until 2008'

(probably meant to say the Model 8 in general, my 8 MkIII was new in

'..........maximum current consumption of 50 microamps (20 000 ohms/ V)..........' was true of the Model 8, but it's written as though it was true for all models. AFAIR the Model7 was 5 000 ohms/V and the Model 40 something like 1 000 OPV.
