OT - collection needed

I left a low bid on a radio thingy (RF Amplifier) on ePay & to my surprise I ended up with it. Unfortunately, I'm in Bristol & it is in Blackpool! Anyone going that way & then will be at (say) Enstone?

What an 'orrid great lump! (yes, I've been stalking you). Top half at least looks more like some sort of sig gen to me. Probably not commercially built - either radio amateur 'home brew' or a manufacturer's in-house special test equipment dep't.

I'd leave it in Blackpool ;-)

Given my other main interest, I'm curious too as to what this piece of kit is...

I'm sure Kim won't mind:-

Hmmm - from the controls, and the scale markings on the main dial, it looks like an inductance, capacitance, and resistance bridge, with (just possibly) some sort of power meter or signal generator function too.

Bottom dial appears to be calibrated in fractions of ohms and farads, so yes - possibly some sort of bridge. I think I can just make out the words kilocycles and megacycles on the upper dial, hence suggestion of a sig gen. Can you remember the name of that co-ax plug? I've come across the type before but can't place it - possibly something from Plessey.

Yes; that dial has much the same sort of calibration as the '50s (estimated) LCR bridge I have here.

Yes, I reckon you're right - it could well be a multi-function test set for service bench use. The impedance selector, with three or four loudspeaker-like impedance settings plus 5k ohms, and the 300mW/3W switch, suggests an AF power output meter might be in there too.

I've seen them before too, but I don't know the make or type.

Nick,

Having just read yours and Andrew's comments the word "whoosh" comes to mind as it passes straight over my head :-))

Martin, Much of my misspent youth revolved around the acquisition of various items of electronic junk - the residue still lurks in the dark recesses of both my and my parents' houses!
