Somewhat OT -

But I think you'll like it. Original 1930-40's pictures of big bikes sand and road racing in Wales and in the Island.

Some very evocative stuff, original adverts etc.

Certainly do like it - what a wonderful site. I didn't realise that there was such a motorcycling heritage in Wales. I do know that there have been some very quick Welsh road racers, including one former sidecar racer who bought a Norton production racer from me seven or eight years ago after his wife had finally had enough, and had pushed his contemporary and priceless combination out of the garage and set fire to it. That event spelled the end of his marriage and forced his return to a cheaper form of road racing, hence his purchase of my machine.

In 1968 or 69 I bought a Brough Superior which had been used for sand racing in Wales and the North West. You would have thought it the least suitable Brough Superior for any form of competition; it was an 11-50 Special with a JAP 1100cc side-valve v-twin engine. I paid £25 for it and it came with a couple of spare frames, one or two extra engines, a gearbox or three and a host of other bits and pieces. Within a year I had to sell it when my parents finally rebelled at the loss of all garage space to a teenage son. At least I was able to get my money back.

Kim, Thank you for sharing this with the group. Some amazing pictures. You can almost hear those open pipes and smell that Castrol R.! If there is a Heaven then it has to be situated on "the" island in the period 1930-59 !

God Bless the IOM.

(I tried to post this reply yesterday, but BT Internet seems to have sent it into purdah)
