Unpainted engines

Gentlemen,

After this last weekend I feel that the subject of unpainted engines should come back to the fore. Dan Howden and myself have just spent the weekend amongst old iron which has been restored to working order but left with its original clothes, today we visited the Hereford pumping station museum where we also so saw engines in their original clothes. What a sight to behold, not a bit of paint to be seen and all the better for it.

I doubt that was their original finish.

However, I know Martin is only stirring us up and he doesn't really mean what he says about prefering things unpainted. As I've a background of vehicle paint restoration, Martin has agreed that I should repaint his engines to show standard.

Don't be too fooled by his winding up attempts. However, it's been a few weeks since we talked about paint so it's due again.

From what I've seen and read, the most important coat of paint applied by the manufacturer, in bygone days to a cast iron engine, was to the interior...

"There I was sitting by the river with my hook in the water when very quickly I got a bite, hook, line and sinker". :-))

As to getting a tin basher to spray my lovely unpainted engines, to which I have now added a "B", hell will freeze over first. I cant understand people who insist I am winding them up especially as they are the first to bite, eh John :-))

Would that be the owner of a certain Ruston pump who doesn't answer emails?

No paint talk needed. Constantly winding the mouse wheel up and down with my index finger to find all his top postings does the trick all on its own :-)

I remember sending an email now asking if you would be so kind to send the pump information but you must have never recived it, for some reason hotmail is a bit strange on sending and reciving certain emails, Dan H has just had the same problem but now its working again, I think it has something to do with the alignment of the planets, If you have time try again and i will keep an eye out in the spam email folder .

Thanks bob
