Acrylic inks

Hi folks

Does anyone have any experience using acrylic inks? I have a Mecanorma MG1 technical pen which I use for lining locos with 'Magic Colour' acrylic inks. They have decided to discontinue the production of opaque inks (except black and white) and I am unable to source any other colours. I have heard that Daler Rowney do a series call 'FW Acrylics' some of which are opaque but I cannot seem to find any info on which ones.

TIA

Andrew

I use Windsor and Newton - Not perhaps ideal as the yellow is not opaque (you do a white first the go over it) but they work well in a good pen - Never had much success with acrylic paints.

What sort of pen do you use?

Its a mapping pen of sorts, obtained from an atrists supply shop. There are two types, one is a plastic or wooden handle with removable nibs, these tend to be too coarse for N (I find), I prefer those where the nib is supplied inside the pen body attached to a removeable plastic plug, this protects the nib in transit and these seem to be finer than the others. However I have found that some work better than others, I have five of which two work well, one tends not to write at all and two leave blobs of ink.

The lettering on the wagons shown in various places on

were done in this way (a very few have transfers, most are (not very well) lettered with ink.

The windsor and newton ink needs to be diluted for use on such a fine nib, I now use a thimble set into a gar lid with Araldite as an inkwell - Filled using an eye dropper with ink diluted (very) roughly

50-50 with water.

Transfers are better bot not always available and I happen to enjoy doing it this way, inept though I may be

Thanks for the details, I've used them in the past but didn't realise they were still available. Have been struggling with hog bristles superglued to sticks:(
