Hornby Rebuilt MN chassis

Can anyone give me the length of the MN chassis and also if there is a difference, the rebuilt WC/BB. (I refer to the chassis block).

Thanks in anticipation.

I thought the two were completely different, even down to driving wheel size.

Which dimensions are you looking for on the MN chassis Peter. The length from immediately behind the buffer beam to the back of the loco is approximately 172mm.

John.

Thanks for coming back John. I have a chassis unit which claimed to be a MN , DCC ready. It was missing its valve gear so I bought in the gear and fitted it. However, the cyl position proved to be too far forward and I began to suspect it to be a r/B WC/BB. The spares lists do not give dimensions but I see that the Hornby Pub. gives differing lengths.

So, any length which can be compared will give me the correct model!

Voilà!

Peter A

I have just measured the solid chassis section to be 145mm. (rear pegs to just before the front fixing screw.)

The MN chassis (measured without removing the loco body and from the front of the cast chassis to rear, but excluding mounting lugs)appears to be approx 150mm.

John.

Hum! It looks as if "mine" is a West Country. That would confirm my suspicions regarding the valve gear.

Thanks John.
