Hornby Trakmats

Hornby are replacing the original with two different trakmats one of which was the trakmat plan for the Thomas range and a new trakmat called MidiMat.

Thanks for the link: it does explain that there should be at least two versions.

I still cannot find the correct catalogue numbers nor the part number(s). The Hornby website search engine finds nothing. I'll try again using midimat.

The two I bought were R8217 [supposed new for 2008!] and R9086 but both I received two part # X5430. There is no other reference on the package.

The difficulty is to avoid buying further duplicates.

So a customer buys a train set from Argos (or the like), and then a couple of weeks later decides they want a track extension pack.

The conversation usually starts:

"I'd like a track pack 'C' please?" "For which track mat sir?" "The one which came with my train set obviously." "I don't know which one that is sir" "It's a 'Flying Scotsman' set!" "Which one sir?"

And it goes on and on.

Thanks John. I'll be away on business from early Tuesday morning until at least late Thursday. By which time I'll probably have a third TrakMat [R8011] to my collection.

The original objective was to have different mats, but I had not realised how 'muddled' the catalogue was. Nor how difficult it could be to trace the catalogue numbers and the part numbers. I find it difficult to believe that they should not relate to each other.

Don't suppose that helps much, but I suspect the part numbers are shown on the ones which are stripped from trains sets, rather than being individually packed and sold separately. They may simply refer to different print runs, or there may be minor differences.
