Lenz - changes to decoder range

Good morning,

We've just been advised of some fairly significant changes to the Lenz range of loco decoders. The following will all be discontinued in the very near future:-

LE0521A LE0521D LE0511A LE0511D LE1014A LE1014E LE1024A LE1024E LE1025A LE1025E LE1035A LE1035E

whilst a new 'Silver' decoder is announced which is intended to replace the LE1014/24/25 & 35 ranges. The new L10331 'Silver' will have all of the features of the existing and highly successful 'HO Gold' decoder but will not support SUSI, Railcom and USP, it will however offer:-

High frequency motor control Capacity & protection overload Start & braking delay Constant braking distance Shunting speed ABC - simple signal stop & slow speed Push/pull control

4 function outputs Interface lug NEM652 23.0 x 16.6 x 3.5mm Price - just £19.50

Stock is expected shortly.

Best wishes, John Turner,

When are they going to bring out a decoder with braking on a function key?

A few months ago, I bought a rather nice Proto 2000 USRA 2-8-8-2 with DCC and sound. If I set CV4 (braking delay) to 255, run the loco up to full speed, then set the speed to 0, it takes 62 yards to stop. However, using F7 (air brake control) I can stop the loco in 8 yards, or any distance in between. This is a way to drive the loco by allowing it to coast and to control braking yourself.

The only braking I notice on Lenz decoders is "brake on DC", which is not the same.

I've got a couple of that 2-8-8-2s on my layout - they're pretty impressive beasts, now just waiting for the new Hornby/Rivarossi 'Allegheny'.

I'd be inclined to suggest that you aim your comments about decoders with braking facilities to the Lenz importers MacKay Models). It's only with that sort of feedback that the next generation of decoders will evolve. Mind you I guess they'll be preoccupied with producing sound decoders as a next step.

John.
