LNEEG

Hi guys. Stuck out here in central Alberta & deciding to get back into modelling (trains that is) I started to lurk around this group & have learned a lot from your posts. Wanting to model LNER (region that is) about 52 til 60 I went surfinmg & found LNEEG. My problem, that I hope someone can solve, is that the web page says email Iain Fraser with a hyperlink but my emails are returned because Iain Fraser's mail reader doesn't know me. The catch 22 situation is obvious & I hope someone can break the loop.

That's the problem Bruce. I've tried them all with the same result. Ah well back to the drawing board.

Can you be a bit more specific about the error message - it sounds a bit strange. At least one of the ISPs Bruce Fletcher lists (Force9) doesn't itself have any mail bouncing by default, and it seems a bit odd to publicise several email addresses if you don't accept any emails from people you don't know! If they're bouncing before they get to him, you would have thought he might wonder why no-one is sending him emails having seen the web page!

Maybe he's had enough sense to have all emails sent to or via the website trashed to avoid the plethora of spam which otherwise results.

Which sounds a bit stupid don't you think John? Why try & recruit new members & then refuse to read their application forms?

Which was exactly what I was just about to say! :-) I would agree that publicising an email address that way is just asking for trouble, which is why forms are much better. However, if you do put your contact details as an email address on a website like that, then it is your own fault you get spammed, but you should still make sure you check through the 999 spam emails to find the one genuine. You won't find any email addresses in any website or usenet posting that I have anything to do with!

That sounds like the user "lner" is not valid on that domain, rather than an over-active spam filter, on his part. Either way, he hasn't set something up properly at his end. It could also be due to the fact that

formatting link
appears to have been changed to
formatting link
which doesn't exist!

Self-explanatory, I think! Geocities is one of those flighty accounts like Hotmail, MSN or AOL. Accounts tend to come and go at the drop of a hat, like if you fail to use it for more than 5 minutes :-)

Hopefully that will be fine if he has set it up properly! No bias at all, but I use their sister company PlusNet, and I am 100% confident that it won't be the ISP causing the problem!

And if this doesn't work Norman, I can forward your message to Iain. I have an email address that works for him, or did two weeks ago when I asked him to search for a book for me.
