[Semi OT] Train I saw today

Freezing my Behind off at West Brompton waiting for a City District line service I heard a loud rumble from behind me. Then, heading towards Clapham junction (that's platform 2), came two class 73s coupled together. One was running electric (lots of sparking around west Brompton) and the other was running diesel. They were in a grey livery and the rearmost one had an unusual set of couplers.

Were these the Eurostar thunderbirds?

They couldn't be much else as EWS have withdrawn their 73s due to lack of TPWS equipment.

Must have been, if they were light grey colour then they are Eurostar thunderbirds. The only other 73s still allowed out at the Gatex ones, which of course are dark grey.

What's TPWS?

TPWS = Train Protection Warning System. Mandatory on all main line loco's and stock as from 1/1/04 I believe, although one or two shunters *may* be exempt.

The Gatwick Express still uses their set regularly. Is that the upgraded one?
