Someone with Heljan Western?

I've been looking for a pic of one of these locos going round a trainset curve, or in fact any curve, as I'm trying to find out whether the extreme lower end of the body side (the bit that's out on it's own near the buffers) is fixed to the bogie ala Hornby, or to the body ala Lima.



I would hope it was the latter... Can someone put me out of my misery?



And, can they go round my proposed return loops made from 2nd radius setrack?

Thanks John! From what I've heard the mechs are are a bit quieter than the Lima though! :) Just need to know if they can manage 17.25" radius!!! ~Fil Downs

Not tried one on anything less than 24" radius, but they coped with that. I understand that adding the brake rigging to the bogies can cause difficulties with tight radius curves.

As John says, the skirt is fixed to the body as per Lima. However, forget about fitting the brake rigging! When we reviewed this model in Model Railways Online Magazine

and fitted the brake rigging, we weren't able to get it to go around large radius Peco turnouts, despite the fact that the instructions mention layouts with large radius curves. They really shouldn't be making models with details that can only be fitted on models that are never run and sit in a show case! Graham Plowman

I've d/l'ed the latest MROL today - looks good!

I would prefer it that way than go back to the days of Tri-ang-Hornby.....
