I don't see how you would go lighter? The Nexgen only goes down to #9, unless you drop all the way to #5.
I don't wear any glasses nowadays, so I can't really advise.
Last February I had to give a lecture for the local AWS section on advanced TIG welding with Pulsers and Sequencers.
I spent the 3 weeks before running through lots and lots of TIG practice so I didn't look like a fool during the demos.
I just don't weld as much as I used to so the hand gets rusty.
Glad I'm not the only one, then. I wasn't rusty, I was just plain bad. I need to build some things here soon, and will try my new bifocal contacts. It should be interesting. I haven't welded with them yet. They're great for computer and reading.
I have a pair of 2 x (diopters?) for welding and other close work. D calls them my Mr. Magoo glasses.
Bifocals might be a small problem re: head placement?

I taped an Optivisor lens to the inside of my hood. It made the impossible easy.
Vision as an ability, is highly underrated.
