Building the AMA SUT PArt 5

Part 5

Paint or Cover? The choice is yours. Me, I am a lousy with monocote so I chose to paint. I won't bore you with the details as you all know how to paint with dope. Sand, sand and more sand. I am painting the bottom of the nacelle Insignia blue and the sides white, just to add contrast under the wing. Don't forget to either clear dope the engine well area or use finishing epoxy. Put the bolts in the blind nuts first so you don't fill the nuts up.

Oh, some corrections for the previous write ups. A Fults nose gear does NOT fit the ARF supplied engine mount. You need to drill out the holes if you intend to use a Fults. I made another change also. I decided to cover the sides of the nacelles with white monocote. I got tired of painting. The dark blue bottom of the nacelles, contrasting with the white of the wings should make it very visible.

Now you need to deal with F-1 and F-1A. You have to find the inboeard side of LE. I used a T pin and only had to poke three holes in the sheeting until I was pretty sure I was close. You will need to use F-1 and the nacelle as a guide as to how wide you make the notch that F-1 will fit into. F-1 is the PRIMARY hanging point of the nacelle from the wing. You need to cut a notch about twice the thickness of F-1 as you will epoxy (30 minute) it to the back of the LE. The extra width lets you use another piece of ply or balsa to hold it in place as it cures.
