Building the AMA SUT Part 6

Part 6

Finishing the nacelles.

Motor mounts. I used the recommended GP 40-70 size and they are fine. You should have already installed the blind nuts in the firewalls so putting in the mounts will take no time at all. I positioned one engine on one of the mounts so that the trust bearing was 4 =BC inches from the firewall. I marked its position on the ends of the motor mount with a scribe. I took the mount off and mounted it in a vise and then drilled the mounting holes. I drilled one at a time to insure I would have no trouble later.

I assembled the Hayes tanks and tried their fit in the tank hatch. No problem. Fuel and pressure hose was then cut. I reinstalled the motor mounts without the engines. I then installed the throttle push rod. I used thin wire but you may want to consider cable if you use a mini servo here. The angle the wire has to travel is pretty severe and I had to make a sizeable slot in f-2 to get the tube thru and pointed in the right direction. Now is a good time to center the aileron servo and place the throttle servo in the closed position.

You will now need to create a cover for the bottom end of the nacelle and the top covering the area where the wing meets the firewall. Refer to the plans for grain direction.

OK, the nacelles are done. Next: mounting.
