I use AOL because: 1. I always have since my first computer in '95.

1. It's easy and a dummy like me can do what I need to do.
2. It's safe and pretty well clean, with a lot of options.
3. I live in the country and it's available.

Although the term 'toy' is usually used in a derrogative sense when referring these and some of my other passtimes, I still do refer to my motorcycles, sailboats, RC planes, etc as toys. I guess I need a better term to encompass the lot of them. Hobbies, Distractions, Passtimes? I'm open to suggestions.

Now If I can only figure out how to carry my 2 meter sailplanes on the motorcycle as I'm heading to the lake to sail my boat, and not say that I'm off to play with toys for the afternoon.

Sure it is. If it's primary use is for "fun", then it's a toy.

Some grown-up's toys are dangerous, expensive, and not to be taken lightly.

If they're doing that stuff just for fun rather than to earn a living, then yes. Those are indeed grown men playing with toys. Rather expensive and dangerous toys, but still toys in my book.

For me RCU and RC Groups have become the way to go. It may be a littl

slower due to the GUI as others have mentioned, but since the topic are sorted and seachable, it saves me time overall. They are virtuall spam free, and I'm not forever skipping items marked FA, FS, OT o making filters. I also like some of the manufacturer and famous peopl forums. I still do frequent the NG's and sometimes respond to them, bu through RC Groups interface, since it protects me from getting spammed. The only thing I don't like about RCU and RCG are the longer thread that have become longer than say 50 messages, some several thousand long

Yep, I understand that. I just don't know if I can get a 2 meter sailplane wing to survive a road trip on the bike. I knew I should have built it as a two-piece wing.

How fast do you figure the wing can handle? ;^) mount it like it's a spoiler on the back of the bike... I'm pretty sure that the wing in my old Wander could have handled 60-70 mph. More than once I'd pulled it out of a dive and the monokote was screaming/singing between the ribs. 8^) I wore the fuselage out...

So much for lane splitting though. Not to worry, I've just purchased a SmoothE from Mountain Models. That outta be a bit easier to strap onto the bike. Not much for thermal hunting though. I'll have to think about whether or not to drag it along to Texas this summer for the infamous NART reunion.
