Generic question:

What is the highest RPM commercially available CNC out there?

There are some pcb drilling machines that have 275,00 rpm spindles.

I knew the micros would be fast, and meant standard CAT-type taper machines... But even for a micro, 275,000 RPM is VERY fast...

You can get a 54K RPM Step-Tec spindle as a standard option for some models of Mikron... probably not the fastest out there, though. Retrofits can be much faster (like IBAG).

Hi Joe,

KERN (ultra precision machine tools) offers a standard 500-50,000 RPM spindle with < 1um spindle runout capable of rigid tapping down to a

0.35M (0.0135") tap successfully. They offer an optional 60,000 - 160,000 RPM spindle that is swappable in under an hour by the user. It's used mostly for grinding small parts on their machines.
