Seems to me that you and I are the only moldmakers in here now...
The nut thing is pretty S.O.P. in ANY tool & die shop I've ever worked at. However, I've never seen one actually welded on.
If you are going to post a link to something that isn't huge as far as bandwidth, please leave the link up for more than a few hours. I checked this in < 24hrs after your original posting and now a few days later it is obvious that you took it down.

Would someone help me back up on my chair, this is too funny! Guy puts pictures up, gets blasted for warning others of potential danger, takes pictures down for his own reasons, gets blasted for taking said pictures down.
Surprised he didn't get blasted for not having seamless, hybrid, unified eyebolts, with truespace modelling kernels !!

1) I printed out the photos from this accident:

I gave the photos to the Owner, Shop Supervisor and Lathe Operators in a shop that runs their engine lathes in a similar manner. Their engine lathes are about the same and larger in size than shown in the photos. The operators were wearing loose fitting & long sleeve clothing and leather gloves just like shown in the photo. They stopped that practice for maybe 2 or 3 work days, then went right back to where they were before.
2) At my wife's work a maintenance worker was running a lathe in the maintenance department. Went to pull a chip while spindle is running, something caught his leather work glove and pulled his hand and arm in. Lucky for him it was a small engine lathe and didn't kill him, he broke 5 or more bones and he lost the use of two fingers. Some months later same guy returns to work and my Wife catches him doing the EXACT same thing!

BTW I keep a print of the same pic on my desk, to remind the trainees that "this isn't a video game", you f-up, you get hurt, and you bleed real blood, you feel real pain, and they dont make replacement parts for the ones left in the machine.
