Where to move?? Bidniss 101, Geography 101.....

Dudes,

First, may Allah praise googlemaps.....

Apropos of Gunner's recent post on effing NYS, I will proly starting the very initial stages of The Move.

'course, I have oft-cited NYS as the most oppressive state in the effingUnion, incl. the draconian Rockefeller drug laws, on par with CA -- Mendocino notwithstanding. Whazzup wit Mendocino, yo? Weed-City.

From both a shop and living pov's, how does one go about finding an ideal location, with some of the following concerns:

  1. Proximity to NYC, and poss. Wash DC -- well, that pretty much pegs the gross geography, dudnit?

  1. proximity to hydroelectric power: Niagara Falls, Tennessee Valley -- wonder how far they extend, grid-wise? Just preparing for the Great Energy AssFucking.... Figger it will be less, hydroelectrically....

  2. Proximity to stainless/aluminum supply houses, materials, tool suppliers, shit in general. Century is in central jersey for SS tube, Hadco Alum is in NY, Philly, Fla.

  1. Low cost of doing bidniss/living. PA seems great for that, Delaware (no state income tax in DE).

  2. Available labor, some of it skilled. Proly won't be doing major manufacturing, as I will proly be better off farming/sub'ing shit out. But proly ongoing "R&D", custom stuff, studio for demo'ing shit, etc.

Also, it's too effing cold in NY, altho it's certainly not as cold as it used to be.

Iny ideas/links/techniques on how one goes about rationally choosing a locale, esp. in assessing #4? Any other considerations that would offset #4? I think Ed H. mentioned that the mayor of Camden NJ sleeps with a gun, or sumpn....

Proly will keep the house/shop in Yonkers, NY, mostly so's I won't forget what a good assfucking really feels like.... And just for recourse, in case I make a big-azz mistake, in The Move....

I am very partial to ghettos, but moreso to empty industrial parks/areas. Both imply cheap real estate.

But not all ghettos are cheap, the outer boroughs of NYC and effingYonkers being two prime examples.

Philly, however, should be quite cheap, as per Tom Hylton on

about which PBS occasionally broadcasts a very inneresting ditty of the same name/guy.

According Hylton, suburban sprawl, which he views as a geographical land cancer, has destroyed Philly, due to peculiar subsidization policies, which I dint quite fully grok.

Very very inneresting program on land use, many here would appreciate it.

g-dPhilly looks like the South Bronx of the '80s. Bigazz place, too. 100 miles from Manhattan, south. AND, right across the bridge from Philly is but another primo primo ghetto: Camden, NJ, yo!

Problem with NJ is its gummint is about as whacked and jacked as NY's, and the taxes/meddling/harrassment is out of control, according to some machine peeple I talked to some time ago. Wife's friend moved there, just found out the zoning won't allow her to put up an effing fence over 3' tall, NOR shrubbery over 3' tall!! Whazzup wit dat???

Stroudsberg and Port Jervis PA are about 80 mi West of Manh.

Morrisville PA is 80 mi south, right across from Trenton NJ. Trenton has a nice ghetto.

Wilmington Delaware is about 130 mi. south of Manhattan, looks civilized, and is 30 mi south of Philly, 130 mi from Wash DC. But is there a ghetto closer to Wilmington than Philly??

Baltimore MD has a good ghetto, is 190 mi from Manhattan (starting to be a real hike, now), but real close Wash DC. I figger if electricity ever gets real short, the closer a muthafucka is to the Capitol, the better.

Oh, oh, one of the best ghettos is Wash DC itself, just a stone's throw from Penn. Ave. Or was, as of the late '90s. Perty embarrassing.....

Mebbe Obama would run me an extension cord or sumpn, iffin I lost power...

If there is another great/stable place to move to, besides Europe, I'd consider that as well. But sheeit, as Frontline just recently pointed out in their Healthcare ditty, some people are moving back to Europe just for effing health coverage! Holy shit....

What was funny in that frontline piece was that insurance execs worry about losing health coverage!!! goodgawd.....

The USA is apparently the only developed country in the world where muthafuckas go bankrupt/lose dey houses, due to illness.

But another reason to love Merka.

I'm here in Allentown Pa with a whole bunch of NJ people that fled NJ's sky high taxes. Forget Philly they're broke and the the mayor just doubled real estate taxes or something like that, and he's got a whole list of other taxes to raise or add.

Allentown Pa, neighbor to Bethlehem, former home of Beth Steel and you can't buy a peice of steel anywhere around here, I need to go the the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton or Philly area. Weird. Thank You, Randy
