Re: Should I give phone-help or book a call-out?

The goodwill you get from answering simple questions over the phone is probably worth more in the long run.

(Unfortunately, I don't think my photos of the "spaceship" in the middle of London will come out OK. Darned digital camera glitched...)

And tell their friends what a good guy you are -- you just can't buy that kind of advertising!

I've developed a slightly more callused attitude by now. The only thanks from these people living in big and fast-paced London are : "Yes, thanks, mate, I'll try that, see 'ya". They don't remember your number even for 20 seconds after that.

If they are money-less, old, frail etc, I'll tell them what to do to solve it themselves. If they are likely to figure out the correct solution, while they wait for me, to then cancel me 5 minutes prior to my arrival, then I'll also tell them.

For others, if indeed the solution to their quandary is not blatantly obvious, I'll try and book the job.

Regards,

chris

Are they calling to ask a simple question? Or are they calling to book a call out? If it's the latter book a call out, the former, give them some quick telephone help, if you don't mind doing that.
