Unfreezing locks?

Builders are basicly the same as an end user, they just only 'use' it till the whole house sells. They don't know any more on average than the homeowner does except maybe where to get a lock even cheaper than HD will sell it. $400K+ house, $10 lock, and strike screwed to nothing but door jamb with 1/2 inch screws.

folks here are sometimes VERY scared when I open their doors with a pocket knife..something about having a 3/8+" crack BETWEEN the door and frame on their new quarter million dollar house.. and I tell them NO it cannot be easily OR cheaply fixed..

waste of time.. FIRST thing needed is a new complete door AND frame.. and something BEHIND the frame, closer than 2" away and PREFERABLY solid other than insulation and sheet rock

Sell them a Medeco Maxum and use the included strike box screwed to the studs mortising as required. $250.00 installed. It will be a hell of a lot better than whatever was there before. Of course if it's one of those decorative doors with glass panels on both sides there isn't a hell of a lot you can do.
