What do you guys think of a new forum?

Hi all, I had dropped out of this newsgroup a year or so ago because of all the spam and endless "How do you pick locks?" questions. I've been lurking a bit, and I see not much has changed.

I've been seriously contemplating launching a secure moderated forum that is FREE FREE FREE for it's members, with zero advertising. I understand Clearstar is a nice resource, but I'd never pay $$$ to check it out. TNL seems to be poorly maintained. I would ask some locksmith related questions based on whatever field the new member is in (i.e. commercial, safes, automotive, etc.) to verify their legitimacy as a locksmith - and that's it. There will be no spam, advertising, nor profanity (however a classifieds section would be considered for the benefit of members only).

Please let me know if some of you would be interested in this. I don't want to go through the trouble of building the forum if no one is interested. If you'd like to see an example of the layout, I moderate at a dirtbike forum:

I'd be interested.

BTW - If you just want to check Clearstar out, they have a one month free trial. If you're interested, email me.

I tried a locksmith group on Yahoo! and then they killed off my profile.

I'd be interested also!

Stormin' expound a little on what you meant by that. We've got a group on locksmith marketing on Yahoo I started that is doing very well. We've had no problems. Lots of good resources and a varity of experienced mentors as well as start-ups with questions.

I've had an offer from a service to host the group off of Yahoo and may do that if we continue to grow at the pace we have. Your experience is not one I've had. If you would expound a little more I'd like to know if there's something I should be on guard for.

Thanks!

can't believe anyone would even have a SPECIAL OFFER ON CODEPRO ELECTRONIC CODE MACHINE.

Gordon Gravelle must be getting desperate. Its been a while, he may be wanting to sue another customer?

the words CodePro make me sick at my stomach !

Dan, I would be interested in such a forum also. My favorite locksmith-related forum is TNL's, but I hadn't noticed a lack of maintenance there.

Although I've been in various construction fields for almost forty years, I became a locksmith only a few years ago. I learn more from TNL's forum than I contribute there, but that is because the forum hosts some very knowledgeable ladies and gentlemen who have many collective years of locksmith-specific experience. The forum seems to be practically unmoderated, but perhaps that's because almost every single member minds his/her manners and acts like an adult.

I offer my advice or point of view only when I feel certain it is something accurate and has not been introduced by someone else already. 'Tis better to remain silent and thought a fool than . . . you know the rest.

As for creating another locksmith forum--how's that saying go? . . . ,

"Build it, and they shall come."

So shall I.

You know I know it's not your nature, but you could have let this pass without comment. We all know you despise Ray and have a dislike for Gordon, why remind us all the time? Not flaming just tired of the same ole complaints.

Sure. It's also everyone's right to killfile you if they get tired of listening to the repetition of these pet peeves. I've done so in the past, and may do so again.

Really not much spam here compared to many unmod groups.

You're certainly welcome to try but I think there are a number of existing forums that meet the need.

The best thing would have been for Gordon to let the whole thing pass w/o hoopla to begin with. If he had any negative opinion expressed about his machine would have been quickly forgotten.

TNL's forum is really pretty good. It is not especially secure but that can be worked around the same way it is here.

Well, there is always IL (
