Why Are Locksmiths So "Rough around the edges" ?

Women tend to leave their purse and coat in the car. The key must be tied around their neck, or attached to something that they are always wearing.

If you are that thick or stupid do you really think you are fit to drive? Hang up your keys darling - call it a day!!!

In 1980 I charged $45.00 minimum to unlock a car. Today my minimum is $95.00. Anybody who is willing to work for $25.00 pays himself what he is worth.

But you confess to being a BMW driver. That is only slightly above someone who drives a Ford with spoilers and a go faster strip.Pimps and Mafioso drug dealers drive BMWs.

I wish you had replied to the OP, and not me. I am certainly fit to drive and have never locked the keys in a car.

Which begs the question: "How often do you think you *should* lock your keys in...??"

Apparently, not unpleasent enuf, of you'd have thought of some way to have a spare (or two) handy.

The key word in your statement is *seems*. The reason you are being sent the ignorant, smelly, slimy, fume belching bozo is that the locksmiths that are inteligent, clean and chearful locksmiths are busy enough that they do not need to take AAA calls to help folks that are driving Beamers, schleping about cellphones, computers, and other trappings of the snobby idiots that are too stupid to keep a spare key or have the ordinary skill to remove the key from the ignition after shutting the car off.

AAA uses the cheapest "locksmiths" they can find. Most REAL locksmiths won't work for them. The ones that do usually have a low level "trainee" that they make run all the AAA calls

Sure you did, but you're too cheap to pay for your own mistakes.

You're bragging about owning a $65,000 car, but you're too cheap to pay for a real professional and have your problem solved by someone who knows what he's doing (and charges accordingly). Then you whine about poor (free) service, and paint a derogatory picture of an entire industry, based on your very limited experience with it.

You're only dealing with the industry's "bottom feeders". What do you expect.

Here's some good advice. You probably already have it, but never bothered to look... Check your auto insurance policy. Do you have "Emergency Road Service" on there? (If not - get it. It's about ten bucks a year.)

YOU call the locksmith of YOUR choosing. You pay for it out of your pocket. You submit the invoice. And your insurance company reimburses you in a couple of weeks.

You know, Corrine, I've been a locksmith for over twenty five years. I've served in many board positions (including President) for the Maryland Locksmith Association. Most of the locksmiths I've met have been honest, knowledgeable, professionals.

Are there exceptions? Of course there are... just like any other industry. You seem like a relatively intelligent person, (although a little snotty and full of yourself) So consider this... If you only deal with the ones who are willing to work for peanuts, what do you expect your experiences to be?

AAA pays about $25 for lock-out service. I get $70. (Get it now?)

Six times in 24 years. Back to the van for something. Toss the keys on the workbench. Back to the van for something else. Toss second set on the floor. Back for something else. Leave small (watch pocket) set behind.

In case you lost count... that's THREE sets of keys (along with car opening tools and picks) locked in the van. I've gotten good at opening vent windows with "improvised tools". And everybody who walks by has "something to say".

Actually did it once AT A LOCKOUT! Went back to the van to put my tools away and get my invoice book , and locked the only set of keys I had with me, in the van.. Theresa had to bring me another set. (Never told the customer.)

See.... BMW owners don't have the market cornered on "dumb"! :)

Instead of waving vague insults around, how about try to work on yourself? I can tell that you courtesy and manners are in need of some polish. Not to mention how to put keys in your pocket when exiting a vehicle.

I was in Columiba, MO at the Super 8 this weekend when I locked my keys in my truck. Large college town, holiday and weekend evening. I was expecting a bill upwards of $75-$100 dollars when I locked my keys in my truck.

I called 1-800-lockout and a very polite, and courteous locksmith arrived in less than 10 minutes. He opened my truck in less than 2 minutes.

This guy arrived in a little car with lots of tools organized in his back seat very neatly.

I went from locked out 100 miles from home, kind of worried about getting someone to help me, to unlocked and on my way in less than 20 minutes.

He only charged $40.00 which I thought was a bargain considering the circumstances. A true professional.

(Sidebar to Corrine, you come off like a damn bitch in your post. Maybe that's why the guy wasn't super duper nice to you. I hope you and your stupid ass car have a good new year.)
