Black Max WANTED

No, I am not looking for a Negro Jewish guy. I am looking for the flywheel/fan for a Sears Black Max air compressor of this Sears number:

919.184190.

That number is the compressor number. It is 220 volt and has a 60 gal. tank.

Anyone have one from a trashed unit that I can buy?

Thanks

Did you get a manual, I think that a number of pulleys will fit. Who was it made by DeVilbiss?

I may soon have a complete complete head and two pulleys for sale, if all goes well.

I don't have one, but I did a Yahoo search for the Sears part number (#265-2) and found that it's a Devilbiss part that can be bought from

for $49.28. Shipping seemed reasonable (the part plus shipping to my house was cheaper through Tool Parts Direct than just the part from Sears. It would have cost $75.40 to buy it from Sears, with shipping...). I know you're looking for a used part, but at least it may be an option.

Unfortunately, no. All I got was the unit minus the pulley/flywheel/fan part.

Yes, Dave; you are correct. I am sorry Dave, but I cannot do that.

Sears and Devilbiss want real money for that - much more than I paid for the entire unit.]

Thanks.

Just because you got a great deal on an incomplete unit, does not mean that it should stay incomplete!

You know, I just may have one of those. Don't know the model number, but it's a 60-gallon upright Black Max. Compressor died on it a few years back. I have the compressor all apart in a box. I expect the fan/pulley is with it.

It will be next week before I can get out there to look. drop me an email next week and remind me.

I also have the tank if anyone else needs a really nice tank.

Don't tell me your pulley failed in service???

Have you tried Sears Parts???? On the web even...

I ran the model number and it came back with the compressor and I looked up the flywheel at $55.99, in stock...

Much easier than trying to find a junker that may not fit....

Hi, Rex.

That sounds great. No, I got the unit with no pulley. Seems the illegals had scavenged parts from this to onto another one.

By the way, what is the name of the Post Office service that allows 75 pounds or so for around 8 bux within prescribed dimensions?

Thanks for the comments, Cliff.

First, I am cheap - really cheap. Secondly, I am retired and no longer make the money that I used to.

However, even when working, I was still cheap - really cheap.

I figure if I can buy used and do this enough, I can have many more toys.

Does anyone agree or is everyone rich?

Good deal, Iggy.

I really don't know who the compressor is made by.

I would like to buy the pulley and perhaps a head from you if possible.

Thanks

USPS flat rate box, I doubt if the pulley would fit.

I agree, but remember that a dead pump does you no good. This comes from someone who also likes buying stuff for next to nothing.

First I have to get it, second I will have to test it...

Thanks, Iggy. I will look up the dimensions of the USPS as it would be handy to be able to ship certain items cheaply.

I can't imagine freight would be very much for the pulley.

Should not be much, no.

Nope (I'm not rich; I'm retired also....). I'm with you 100%; I was only offering an option in case "used" didn't work out.

On the otherhand, I figure I'm still being frugal if I can get that compressor running for a total investment of $50-60, considering that you may have gotten the compressor for free. I'd LOVE to have that compressor as I'm stuck with a small portable (it won't keep up with my bead blaster)....

Merry Christmas!

Dave, after I upgraded from a small portable to a real vertical compressor, I was very happy. Highly recommended.

It's been on my wish list for a long time. However my wishlist is quite long. I'm certainly not complaining as I've done quite well so far. Actually, I guess I could have gotten one for Christmas this year, but opted for a DRO for the mill (I hope it works out ok, I got the whole setup for $450). I can't see it yet, as Santa has to bring it (i.e. it's wrapped under the tree)....

:-)

Of all my tools, the compressor is the most important after drill press.
