business card holders

I had some old motorcycle chain laying around along with a couple sprockets and spark plugs so i welded up some business card holders for some upcoming birthday gifts. Thought I would share the idea with you folks. Stop by any good bike shop and i bet they'll give you some old discarded stuff. The last one (flames) is just a piece of sheet metal that i plasma cut. Have fun,

Very cool! What process did you use to weld?

I tig welded the first one (flames) but found that the mig worked just fine. For the spark plug/gear one, I cut a 4" x 1.5" inch piece of sheet metal for the base. Then I place the chain (after it's cut and bead blasted) into the vice and weld the edge to the chain (see pic1 below), the last link gets tacked to the second link after it's turned to a right angle, then grind it all down flat. I used a cutting wheel to cut the gear flat on the bottom (cut the bottom of the plugs as well) then tack them on to the base. Now it's just a matter of using a wire brush and some sand paper to spiff things up. Clear coat the entire thing with some spray clear coat enamel and wahlah!... cheap gift that should take about a half hour to make. Everyone will say, "Geez, your so clever and creative..." make sure you stick your chest out and say... "yep, that's me" Have fun,
