How to attach a Morse Taper Jacobs chuck to a hand drill?

Hi.
I have an old Milwaukee 1/4" electric drill. I wanted to replace the
chuck with a spare 3/8" one to give me more capacity but when I
removed the old chuck I see it's a Morse taper. I thought they were
all threaded.
How do I re-attach the Morse taper chuck??
I assume I just clean both mating surfaces and give it a whack with a
rubber matter. I don't want to crack the housing or damage a bearing.
Is there a proper procedure for doing this??

Probably a Jacobs taper, not a Morse - especially if it's a male taper on the drill.
Clean it, seat it, tap it on, just as you assumed. And make sure there are no burs or dings to get in the way.

Thanks. I did that.
It's hard for me to believe that it won't slip with nothing more then a couple beats from a dead blow hammer. However it does seem to be holding.
