How to turn my car into a tank ?

Can anyone tell me how to do this like they did on the "A-Team" ?

I need an armored car , since there are many criminals out here and I must have some defence.

I believe if you'll watch the Red Green show he'll likely come up with a simple conversion suggestion. He's a master at converting useless items into handy, useful and clever devices. Mean time, stock up on duct tape so you'll be ready to jump in the moment he airs his suggested method.

Don't bother. Simply seek out an older 60s vintage car in good condtion. First off the body and bumpers are so strong as to make it appear tank like to almost any car on the road today.

Second, if it is a daily rider and not a show car, it will aquire a selection of dings and dents. Don't fix these, and allow them to rust a bit. Folks will steer well clear of your car on the road.

I drove a '68 chevy biscayne for a few years recently and was pleased at the level of solitude I had while driving on the road. I also accidentally knocked down my front gate post in one snowstorm while backing in - steel pipe set in concrete. The rear bumper literally did not show a scratch on it.

Reminds me of an old joke: Whats got 10 legs & a black asshole?

Staple gun or nail gun with lots of staples or nails. Lots of bullet proof vests. Staple vests to under-hood, inside all doors (may require removing covers). Staple to inside roof of car too. Cover all windshields and openings with vests (maybe use super-glue). Make small hinged, kevlar portals that you can open so that you can see out when driving.

Seriously: there are books on hardening automobiles. You might look them up on google.

But you are looking at: 1) Hardening the car body, 2) bombproofing the car,

3) replacing winshields with bulletproof materials. However, bulletproofing yourself with kevlar is something you might also consider.

Perhaps take a look at:

There is also a specialty construction field in making buildings blast-resistant. Google will help you on there. Have a nice day.

BTW, bullet-proof vests really work. Let's just say I know some guys who were in the {CENSORED} who were real curious and bored one day and after years of service were curious whether or not their vests really worked. .45 shot 4 feet away..stopped. From what I gathered, hurt like a--*hawaiian elevator music plays*. Not everyone took their turn. But I'm just joking. Right? Hah hah. Funny. *grin*

Spiderskilk vests are quite worth looking into btw. You can use plain kevlar--it has some "resistant" properties but in its properly woven form its most effective.

Just FYI.

I'll bet they have complete details on misc.survivalism. They probably know a way you can do it with old Spam cans and soil-cement bricks.

Didn't you learn anything from the A-Team? All you need is a couple of old trash cans, some duct tape and a cute girl who's in trouble! :-D

I doubt that whatever they did on the " A-Team" would be of much value except in a TV show. If you really need some defence, the cheapest possibility would be a bullet proof vest. For an armored car, you would need to replace the glass in the windows with Lexan that is thicker than the original glass. So that means changing the window channels, etc. Not a quick and cheap modification.

Quite right, Jim. When driving my 69 Dodge truck I have few problems with other vehicles. Particularly the "generic" cars, and anything shiny, squeeky looking. Even the freeways in SF Bay area, if someone has been tailgating and then decides to pass with an attitude I just drift toward the left lane a bit and they always give a wide berth. And never cut in front of me as close as they had been following. Usually don't get flipped off either, they being busy figuring how to cross 3 lanes to get to the offramp that is now less than 200 feet away, at 65-75 mph. Great sport!

The best defense against criminals is to avoid them. Notice that when criminals are looking for someone to commit a crime against, they NEVER think to look UP. So, with that in mind, I think the best thing to do is to make a hot air balloon and power it with a pulse jet. Now, in case one of the criminals has a big turret-mounted cross bow like the Heckawees had in "F-Troop" ("It is bah-looooon!"), you'll want to make the balloon out of armor plate. Probably 1/4" steel for the balloon part and 1/2" steel plate for the basket part. Then instead of ropes to tie the basket to the balloon, use steel cables.

Don't forget to post pics in the dropbox.

And whatever he does, he should not forget to bring along some items to drop on the bad guys, maybe some old engine blocks, a few lead bricks, a bottle of mercury or two...

:)

Wouldn't it be easier to bulletproof only the driver? Perhaps an old water heater tank with arm and eye holes cut out ... sort of a steel Klan outfit.

Wayne

There ya' go. In fact, you can avoid face injury by not cutting out those holes for the eyes.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Junkyard Wars yet. Surely they've made tanks by now, wot?

I think the conversion that Jethro did on the Beverly Hillbillys might be what is needed, a James Bond type truck that is not simply a passively defensive vehicle. You may want to cut the eye-holes a bit bigger than Jethro did :)

There's a delay in production while they arrange to outsource the filming. Looking to take advantage of lower-cost but higher quality contestants

A good off fence would be cheaper.

Go to work for Halliburton. Reportedly their vehicles have better armor than the ones our troops use.
